Can Online Dating Lead to Marriage?

Online dating isn't guaranteed to lead to marriage, but it does seem to increase the odds of meeting someone special. A study published in the Journal of Social Issues found that online daters had a better opportunity to meet potential partners than those who met offline.

Researchers analyzed data from three separate studies conducted over the course of 10 years. In each case, participants were asked about how often they used online dating sites and apps like Match.com, eHarmony, OkCupid, PlentyOfFish, Zoosk, and Tinder. They were also asked questions about whether they'd ever been married or engaged.

The researchers discovered that those who used online dating sites and/or apps were twice as likely to report having met a partner compared to those who didn't use online dating.

This held true even among those who hadn't used online dating in the past. For example, people who reported never using online dating still had a 60 percent greater chance of meeting a partner than those who did not.

Does Dating Online Result in Better Relationships?

Online dating leads to better relationships, according to a recent study conducted by Match.com. Researchers found that people who met online had a much greater chance of being married within five years than those who didn’t meet online. In fact, researchers discovered that couples who met online tended to marry later than those whose relationship began offline.

The survey included over 5,000 adults across the United States and Canada. Of those surveyed, nearly one in three reported having used online dating sites or apps to find love.

Researchers also noted that people who met online were more likely to report that they felt comfortable expressing themselves and sharing intimate information about themselves. They were also less likely to feel pressured into getting engaged or marrying someone they weren’t interested in.

There's no doubt that online dating has its perks. For starters, it's a great way to meet people you wouldn't otherwise come into contact with.  It also gives you the opportunity to get to know someone before you decide whether or not to pursue a relationship.

Conclusion

Online dating can lead to marriage, but it's not a guarantee. However, the chances of you finding someone compatible with you are much greater with online dating.

Dating sites can help you find compatibility due to the scientific approach they take with their matching algorithms. And, online dating can give you a larger pool of potential partners to choose from.

So, if you're looking for marriage, online dating is definitely worth giving a try!
